Marvel"s Agent Carter only aired for two seasons before it was banished to the TV graveyard back in năm nhâm thìn – and it was a decision that didn"t go down well with the show"s fanbase.

The ABC series came out on đứng đầu in our "TV show you"ll miss the most" poll, & a now-defunct charge.org petition received over 131,000 signatures.

Comic Book chatted khổng lồ Hayley Atwell at Heroes và Villains fan Fest in 2017 about those plans for season three. She revealed that the show would have explored Peggy"s English upbringing & the major effect that her brother had had on her life in more detail – as well as her relationship with the Jarvis family.

There was a wealth of material khổng lồ delve into, but instead viewers were left with numerous unanswered questions and a burning desire for more.

"It"s a shame the network cancelled it và wanted to lớn put me in something more mainstream," she said.

"You know, Marvel didn"t want it khổng lồ end. There"s lots of online campaigns khổng lồ bring her back. Fans loved her. I think it was just a network economical thing: "Let"s put Hayley Atwell in something more mainstream that"s less genre-specific và see if we can get higher ratings".

"And unfortunately, that isn"t, as an actor, anything I"ve got control over. But maybe, in small ways, characters lượt thích Peggy Carter very slowly pave the way for it lớn be possible for other female-led narratives to lớn exist. We"re all part of the same conversation."

So there you have it. It wasn"t Marvel"s doing, although the imminent arrival of streaming service Disney+ would have pulled it off the air for a period of time if it was currently running (see also: Netflix"s raft of Marvel shows).

The decision lay with ABC who, according lớn Atwell, wanted her to lớn star in something that they felt was less niche và in turn, would draw in big ratings. Agent Carter"s first season finale pulled in just over 4 million viewers, while the season two equivalent dropped significantly khổng lồ 2.35 million.

That "mainstream" show was Conviction, a legal drama starring Atwell as Hayes Morrison, an intelligent and rebellious former First Daughter of the United States who regularly found herself embroiled in various scandals.

But Conviction only ran for one season (13 episodes), to lớn largely unflattering reviews. Its ratings also failed khổng lồ really pass those of Agent Carter – the last ever episode drew in 2.43 million viewers.

Sadly, it doesn"t sound like we"re likely lớn get a new run of Agent Carter on Disney+, according to co-creator Stephen McFeely.

"I don"t know. It was an expensive show. You"re doing period as well as you can in Los Angeles," he told the Los Angeles Times.

"I don"t know how big the fanbase is, but what it is is really dedicated. And we love the character. So I don"t know, I just don"t know."

But during a Reddit AMA last summer, Marvel TV quái vật Jeph Loeb sounded more positive.

"Wouldn"t that be cool?" he said. "Find us a network! Hayley has been kind of saying she"d love to come back."

However, Atwell"s perspective has changed over time, which is hardly surprising given the show wrapped up more than three years ago.

"I think the main thing, though, is if it were – if there were interest in Netflix or in her being in a film or something – that it would have to feel... It would have khổng lồ feel right," she said at a Q&A panel at ACE Comic bé Seattle in 2018.

"I wouldn"t want to go over old ground. It would have to be new, there would have to be higher production values so she could vì more. I"d have lớn feel lượt thích it"s not just, you know, "a case a week with Peggy Carter".

"If she"s had an impact on audiences, let that impact grow, so it delights them, but I think it should be to vị with more of the current climate now. What are smart issues khổng lồ bring up? How to create any sort of kind of social weight, an emotional kind of gravitas to the show."

She added: "So I think on the principle of it, if somebody approached me with it, I would be appropriately kind of tentative about it, because I would go, "Well, but, you"ve got to convince me of why we need this, & what for, and how is this a development of the two seasons that we"ve done?"

"So that"s more of the question – I"d just want to vị something new with her."

Atwell"s clearly thought a lot about where Peggy could go next. So, Jeph Loeb and Kevin Feige, if you"re reading this, do the right thing. Make season three happen.
